Ce livre est porté par Anahita Ghabaian - docteure en histoire contemporaine - et Newsha Tavakolian – photographe iranienne, Téhéranaise, membre de l'agence Magnum. Elles cherchent ainsi à mettre en lumière l'Iran depuis la révolution de 1979. Pour brosser tous les aspects de la société iranienne, le livre regroupe huit chapitres : Le bouleversement, La guerre du front au salon, Ce que nous devons être, Qui sommes-nous ?, La torpeur, Mettre en scène la réalité, Crise environnementale et Le cinéma poète.

In Today's Life and War, Gohar Dashti presents ten photos depicting a complex relationship between the daily experiences and the internal psychic experiences of a young Iranian couple.
Her works initiate a multi-layered viewing process, beginning with a seemingly innocuous glimpse at the mundane activities of this couple and extending to the disconcerting realization of the presence of military tanks, bunkers and soldiers. Dashti does not suggest that the couple is living in a war zone; instead, she uses the battlefield imagery, coupled with the domestic environment, to elucidate the trauma that results from the violence of war.

She Who Tells a Story explores themes of identity, war,occupation and protest. It refutes the conventional idea that Arab and Iranian women are oppressed or powerless,illuminating the fact that women are creating some of the most significant photographic work in the region today. The exhibition features artists Jananne Al-Ani, Boushra Almutawakel, Gohar Dashti, Rana El Nemr, Lalla Essaydi, Shadi Ghadirian, Tanya Habjouqa, Rula Halawani, Nermine Hammam, Rania Matar, Shirin Neshat and Newsha Tavakolian.

La guerre sous toutes ses formes, larvée ou ouverte, fait désormais partie du quotidien au Moyen Orient. Ce qui s’annonçait aux débuts des printemps arabes comme une promesse de beaux lendemains tourne au cauchemar dans certains pays. Face à ce déchainement d’horreurs et de destruction, les femmes et les hommes luttent pour sauver une apparente normalité dans leurs vies quotidiennes. La banalité du quotidien devient une forme de résistance face à la destruction.

Le Centre Photographique d'Ile-de-France accueille du 5 octobre au 14 décembre 2014 un exposition collective intitulée « La Photographie performe - The Body and the Archive », dont le commissariat est assuré par Chantal Pontbriand (Pontbriand W.O.R.K.S.) et le collectif AGENCY. Ce projet se déclinera sous plusieurs formes (photographies, installations, vidéos et performances), et réunira des artistes de différentes régions du monde tels que : Éric Baudelaire, Mohamed Bourouissa, Gohar Dashti, Simon Fujiwara, Joachim Koester, I-Chen Kuo, Uriel Orlow,et Christian Patterson.
