Steve Hiett was born in the United Kingdom in 1940. He initially studied painting at art school, which further led him to his interest in graphic art and photography. In 1962, he enrolled at the Royal College of Art Graphic Design School in London but became distracted by his interest in music. Career Highlights In 1966, he became a musician, playing guitar for numerous bands that eventually led him to discover fashion photography. In 1969, Hiett worked for Nova, English Vogue, which later turned into Queen He then moved to France where he began working for Vogue Paris and Marie Claire. He quickly began working in graphic design again with clients associated with the fashion industry as well as directing commercials. In 1992, he made the move to New York City where he worked as an art director for G.V.C. and numerous fashion magazines. In 1994, Hiett worked as the art director of Arthur Elgort’s, “Model Manual.” Hiett currently lives in Paris where he works solely as a fashion photographer.
