CAMERA WORK GALLERY The pure work with the camera is an essential premises for what we understand by photographic art. Against this background our gallery takes up the philosophical cores of the classical modern art trend and tries to accomplish and continue the artistic claim and tradition of the legendary "Camera Work" magazine. To this effect, our selection is based on the following criteria: aesthetic quality of the motifs, technical quality of the prints as well as the photographer's creative potential and very important, the originality of the works. When selecting the works, we mostly focus on vintage prints. In addition to the presentation of numerous icons such as Man Ray, Irving Penn, Horst P. Horst, Peter Lindbergh, Peter Beard, Richard Avedon, Diane Arbus, Dorthea Lange, Robert Frank and Helmut Newton, we pay attention to young and hitherto unknown artists whose work features, in our opinion, high artistic and technical quality. Furthermore, the artistic potential, independence and not least the artist's vita are of major importance. The Camerawork gallery was founded in 1997. As an affiliate of Camerawork AG for three years it has been the only stockexchange listed public company in the European and world-wide photographic art market. Above all, Camerawork AG is aiming at establishing a globally important photographic art and trade collection which currently includes more than 10,000 vintage works of the most famous photographers world-wide. Every year we present up to 8 exhibitions from the AG's own property and consignment both in our gallery at 149 Kantstrasse in Berlin and our Hamburg located at 9 Milchstrasse. The galleries (approx. 300 m2 in Berlin and approx. 150 m2 in Hamburg) offer the photographers sufficient floor space whose simple light-flooded rooms increase artistic enjoyment.
