Stephen Alvarez grew up in a secluded college town on the Cumberland Plateau. His father, a mathematics professor. His mother, an artist. So Stephen's career choice as an exacting adventure photographer is one that
should really come as no surprise.

Since 1991, Stephen's assignment work has taken him quite a long way from home. From the caves of Oman to the Peruvian Andes to deepest darkest Borneo, Stephen enjoys nothing more than planning and executing
a challenging shoot.

In addition to six assignments from National Geographic Magazine, Stephen has produced work for Time, Adventure, Outside, Men's Journal, Delta Sky, and Travel Holiday, and several other noted publications. Corporate and commercial clients include Toyota, Patagonia, and Elf/Total.

His story as an adventure photographer has been told in Photo District News and in Outdoor Photographer.

And his 2004 honors include awards from Pictures of the Year International, Communication Arts and a prestigious Banff Mountain
Centre Grant.

Stephen loves traveling the world and shooting what he calls 'places that haven't been cut down yet.' At the same time, he doesn't mind staying at home with his wife and young children documenting things a little more familiar.
